Update for May 1, 2019

In January my thyroglobulin count was 66, we did a biopsy since numbers doubled from November. Three weeks ago we did a biopsy of several lymph nodes that came up negative for Cancer. There is somewhat of a dilemma regarding what to do next. For that reason, my surgeon presented my case to some fellow head and neck surgeons. After the meeting with them, the decision was to wait and redo a whole body scan in 3 months.

Meanwhile, I had my bi-yearly appointment with my Endocrinologist one April 30th. The blood blood drawn at that appointment showed a numbers at 54.  Considering that my numbers are still in the 50’s my endocrinologist believes we should do the radioactive iodine pill again.

His thinking is that there are smaller lymph nodes, too small to remove surgically, causing numbers to go up. He was not 100% sure this is the path he wanted to take so he also is presenting my case to colleagues during an annual discussion in New York. I will know the outcome of that discussion in a week.

My feelings? I am all for the Radioactive isotope pill.  I am not looking forward to do the low iodine diet, nor being locked in my room away from everyone while I am radioactive. However,  I do not like knowing there is cancer floating around in my body somewhere that can spread.
